What is vegetable tanning?
__________
At our store, we create products from leather that has undergone full tannin tanning.
Leather made with tannin tanning will develop changes in color, luster, and suppleness with repeated use, acquiring what is known as "patina" or "character."
Characteristics of vegetable-tanned leather
__________
The process of tanning with tannins extracted from natural plant ingredients takes more than twice the time and cost compared to "chrome tanning."
In addition, in the finishing process, coloring with dyes and fatliquoring are often done minimally, leaving the natural texture largely preserved.
Incidentally, chrome tanning, which offers superior cost-effectiveness and versatility, is said to account for about 80% of leather products currently in widespread use.
However, with growing awareness of environmental issues and natural materials, there is also an impression that vegetable-tanned leather products are increasing.
Leather Finishing
__________
Once the tanning process is complete, the finishing process begins.
This is what you might call the "makeup" process, where the leather's appearance is created through various techniques such as揉み (momi - kneading/softening), coloring, fatliquoring, and embossing.
There are many finishing methods, and each tannery has subtle differences, making this a process where their technical skills are showcased.
The thicker the "makeup," the more the natural texture is lost, but it also has the advantage of being able to hide natural scars and blemishes in the leather.
The leather we use retains much of its natural texture, with minimal "makeup" applied.
Why I chose this leather
__________
Finishing techniques are also advancing daily, and while many leathers with very attractive finishes are being produced, the leather our store has chosen is full-tanning aniline-finished leather.
This finish is a dye-based finish that preserves the natural texture of the leather as much as possible, allowing you to directly experience its feel and quality.
The natural aging that emerges with use, unique to natural materials, is a universal natural beauty that is more captivating and beautiful than any processing.
What is high-quality leather?
__________
When choosing leather products, do you ever wonder, "Is this good quality leather?"
Perhaps some of you make your decisions based on descriptions like "leather from XX" or "made with rare cuts," or simply by the "price."
It's similar to choosing "meat," isn't it?
What we look for in "good meat" is deliciousness,
but what we look for in "good leather" is, I believe, the beauty of its aging process as it's used.
If that's the case, wouldn't being able to see what the leather looks like after aging help you determine if it's "good leather" for you?
We've collected photos of aged products from our valued customers.

And someday, we would be delighted if you could send us photos of your own items.
